Yo! What's going on people? I got sent over here by Lucid from thirdgen.org. he told me there were some die-hards on here that may be able to help out or sell me parts for my upcoming swap!

I don't have a third gen... or any F-body for that matter, but I do have a 1977 Chevy K20 pickup. I've been doing research on what its gonna take to ditch my carb and swap on TPI. I'm hoping to gain a little better driveability, towability, hopefully a little more low down torque, and an MPG or two.

Specs on the truck...
1977 Chevy K20 (3/4ton 4x4).
SBC 350/sm465/np205
d44 front, 14bolt rear with 4.10 gears.
Truck has 2" of lift and 37" tires. Its currently my daily driver, and it runs pretty good.

Engine mods include:
edelbrock 60609 aluminum heads, 64cc combustion chamber 185cc intake runners.

edelbrock aluminum intake.
edelbrock 1405 manual choke 600cfm carb
hedman longtube headers

performer plus 2102 cam
rpm range: idle-5500
duration at 0.050" lift: intake 204* exhaust 214*
lift at cam: intake 0.280" exhaust 0.295"
lift at valve: intake 0.420" exhaust 0.442"
centerlines: lobe seperation 112* intake CL 107*

NW Military and Lockhill Selma. Pretty close to Thirsty Horse Saloon.


And I went ahead and ordered that cam i was looking at, as well as some new lifters. Should put me around 300hp and 435tq, according to the cam tech and the CamQuest software. I know those numbers are probably not super accurate, but it at least gives me an idea.

Still working on getting a TPI setup though. I may have found one, just trying to work out the details with the guy.

Any ideas on an electric fuel pump? i'd like to use an external, inline electric pump if possible. I really don't want to have to drop my fuel tank, and try to find one that fits it.

Make sure that if you buy a complete TPI, its from an 85 or 86 model year. The 85 will work BUT the computer is REALLY slow. You would be better off with an 86 model because it uses the '165 ECM. GM used the 165 ECM until 1989 on the MAF systems.

The easiest way to tell its an 85 model is the ECM will have a module piggybacked to it, its the burnoff module for the MAF sensor. In 86 they moved the burnoff to the MAF sensor itself. The MAF sensor for 1985 is also different looking than the other models.

If you go speed density, then it doesnt matter, but you still have to get the 85-86 lower intake manifold to make it fit the heads. The corvette TPI has the fuel rail hookup for the fuel lines in a different spot and an external EGR crossover.

The setup I'm trying to buy is from an 86. I'd really like to go with the mass air, because its a little more forgiving if you don't have the perfect tune. I've been doing a lot more reading on the subject as well, and it seems that the best way to plumb in the fuel, is to swap to an 87 c10 fuel tank, and use the TBI sending unit with AC Delco EP241 TPI fuel pump. I could probably also snag the TBI fuel lines from the 87 and make them work.

Right now though, I'm looking into what it would take to swap a TBI suburban tank into my pickup, and ditch the saddle tanks. Instead of having 1 usable 15 gallon tank (my selector switch doesn't work), I'll have one 38 gallon tank between the fuel rails. I may have to do some junkyarding/craigslisting when I get back to Texas, to see what I can come across.

What's up bud! haven't seen ya since.... SAO. lol. I am buying a TPI setup from a guy over on thirdgen, but i'm gonna need to hit up pick n pull and get some 22# injectors. The setup i'm getting is coming with 19# 5.0L injectors. Shouldn't be a big deal. Then I'll just make sure to test em, install new o-rings, and all that jazz before I install them.

I'm gonna try to find a clean 80s burb body to swap all my parts into. Will be a better tow rig than the pickup, because i can throw a mattress in the back, and use it instead of a tent on wheelin' trips.
