This topic needs a thread. Since my bird's not running yet, all I can do is talk, so here goes. I've got Edelbrock ceramic coated headers with AIR running to a high flow Cat, then back to a "Cheap Bastard" brand performance muffler called a Vortex "Cherry Bomb". It's not a cherry bomb like you're thinking though. That's just the particular name of the muffler. It's actually really quiet. If you didn't know what I had, you'd think I was a stock TBI 305 sitting at the light. But that's how I like it . So what's everyone running?

Stock manifolds to a 3" performance cat and 3" pipe to the big Borla stainless muffler.
Its really quiet most of the time, most of the noise is from the air wooshing through the engine now. There is a considerable flow difference and you can really feel it, the tradeoff is noise.

BTW i was reading one of your other posts and i noticed you said you had the same exhaust from the TBI?
If that exhaust you are talking about is 2.5" or smaller, you really need to look at changing it out.
When the stock 2.75" exhaust rusted out, i had a local shop change out the tubing and all they had was 2.5" and my car simply would not take off. We are talking about a 305 here. I drove it down the street to Option Muffler, which is more expensive but the guy does really good work. He cut the exhaust off and kicked it to the trash, literally and he said it was a POS.
He slapped on some 3" aluminized tubing and we started up the car on the lift and all the unburnt black fuel in the exhaust shot out the back. This is with the stock muffler with the 2.5" inlet, the increase was even more dramatic when we put the Borla on with the 3" inlet.
The key here is to eliminate restrictions in the exhaust, and it really helped on both mine and my fathers IROC.

Yeah. I replaced the stock exhaust with a 2.5" performance unit a few years ago. It sucks because everything else is 3" from the heads back, and I spent quite a bit on my headers. When I have the cash I'm definitely going to get something a little more open. The trade off is noise. I don't want it to sound obnoxious to where everyone that pulls up at the light wants to race me in their fart canned Civic. Most of the cars I've seen with flows sound like they're asking for trouble just putting down the road. I'd love to get something that sounds nice and subdued, but still flows well. I'd love to pick up a Borla system, but I don't have the cash for it at the moment

Rodriguez tires and mufflers on Roosevelt i think, just on the southside of Downtown.
$150 for installing the Borla Muffler or Flow Master $150 is about right for the pipe $90 for the 3"in cat yep it adds up in a hurry
The Borla really isnt that noisey, you can carry on a conversation in the car going 70 because its all engine noise. With the stock muffler, same exhaust system, it was really loud and you could hear it all the way down the pipe and out the tail pipes.
If you come out to our next meet you can hear it.

I found a posi unit, so I should have it running next week. I'll try to make it to the next meeting.

...I am running the stock dual cats, stock manifolds, and a magnaflow. I got rid of the Flows that were on before in place of the Magnaflows.

How do you like the sound on the Magnaflows? I was thinking of changing the Borla out for a Hooker Aerochamber or a Magnaflow exhaust...
