thats exactly what me and kevin want, but we don't want the hooby shop theme. i want a hawksthirdgen of san antonio basically we do local work and export work as well, i am getting lots of hands on with welding, kev is becoming a technician, his brother is a full on body work specialist, so i have man power out the wazoo it's just commitment, not people coming to do it jsut for themselves, i do work for the joy of doing it. I've been doing tranny and basic welding since i was 13 and now i work full time at a shop, not many guys enjoy there work enuff to do it under the table four 4 years and get nickeled and dimed. So yea i get where you're comin from brian, my uncle and i have many business talks weekly since he owns his own company and has for a while. Basically, i wnat a shop that will do good work for the modern muscle cars, like the f body's of course, but not excluding vette's or gto's and maybe the occasional fox body ford car, i mean there's a market it to have them come and get 3 inch flow's installed lol. And i mean not jsut exhaust and engine work but like we can do basic body mod installs, like weather stripping, interior repair, aftermarket hoods and spoilers/ ground effects, etc. and then simple joe blows tps gave out, we'll do it for the f body stuff. I'm fully gung ho on this dream, 150% and so is kev, we love what we do and i have a passion to make shit better for me and everyone else so after i graduate highschool i already have college lined up and can work in this place while i'm getting certified. I just wanna know how many guys are willing to do this, i mean kev and brian, i know have a want for it, jim has conversed with me on it, and maybe thomas if he wanted to break away from "gauranteed ford employment" lol. So yea, this thread is really important to me cuz it's what i ahve wanted since i was a kid. So c'mon guys pitch in thoughts and all that good stuff

After i'm done with Mechanical Engineering, i'm hoping to be a big part of whatever we get started. I also hope to learn to do minor/major body work. I know a few people who do bodywork on their own. So if WE end up starting something....id' definetly try the bodywork part of the group.

This is good to hear, at least we are on the same page. I was watching an episode of Payback and they had Tim Allen on there, and they were making customer spoilers, ground effects and body parts.
I would like to have a state of the art composite body panel place, that we can fabricate our own parts using nice technologies.
I am going to start thinking about the layout of the shop so you can get a feel of the place.
This will not be limited only to Fbody's. Monte Carlo's, Caprices, and other GM cars from this era shared a lot of parts in common. It would be nice to have a sort of restoration-modification theme to the shop that is different from anything else in existence.

Be cool to have a resto/performance shop. A lot of money would be needed to start it up though.

yea theres lots of ground up stuff to get started, but the market is growning locally for these GM cars, my buddies all wish they could slap gears in Monte's with 5.0 h.o.'s in em and it's possibe with elbow grease so yea, it's just a matter of time and proper investing

I definately agree with the resto/performance shop. The market is there, every where i go now i see some kind of gm car thats been tweaked in one way or the other. I mean from simple exhaust systems, to full out motor builds. I met a few of you the other night and i definately see the passion you guys had for cars in general. With the people that are here its definately possible to have a Hawks third gen type shop here in san antonio. Although i havent met most of you guys, but i plan on getting my car on the road here shortly and becoming a bigger part of the organization. For those of you i havent met, i look forward to meeting you. One thing i think we need to do though is get our name out there. We need people to see our cars and think... damn, thats one sick rig. When my cars is done its primary duties will be thrashing away at the drag strip. The strip is one place i think we can be noticed. What im saying is we need to make our cars stand out from the rest. Take pride in it, the way you build your car defines you and your organization. I personally think we need Logos for the windsheild or something like it. You get a bunch of cars that say San Antonio Third Gen out at the strip laying down some mean numbers... well get noticed by other drivers. Well, thats my 2 cents. Im in 110%. Corey

Doesn't just have to be GM, we could do Buttstangs and other ford cars, or even imports.

true very much so, only thing is we gotta compete with like hot rod shops that already ahve die hard ford guys going there, so unless we blow somebody away with a 5.0 built right i think gm is our starting point. Once i get my car fixed up right and i sell off the 84 i planned on getting a 5.0 so i could get a leg up on the competition, you know, learn both sides of the ball game, of course i'm always gonna be blue oval killer, it's a good business move

Lucid you have pretty good ideas. I have put quite a few thoughts to paper in a buisness plan form form as well. Too your emphasis on ride/handling is spot on: there is after all a road course in San Marcos As for places to work in, gotta love craigslist: sanantonio.craigslist.org/prk/1644997104.htmlI will be living in San antonio as of April. Hope we can meet and chat some more. I have cash to invest in a business and 3rd gens would be the direction I would like to go.

What if we started out with member fees? Use part of the members fees to pay for monthly meets and the other part save for deposits/rent/etc. 50$ for members fees would be too much for me, but say 25 a month and get discount associations with it would be appealing. For those deep into it members, 50$ a month gets you a combination of goodies- within profitable reason.

Cash up front and a written out buisness plan that gives a core group direction to focus on. Gotta figure that if we can get about 5 people to put in $2K each and come up with a game plan for making money (be it off basic performance mods, tune ups, or whatever) along with investing some in a couple of project vehicles then we could grow it fairly successfully. But you gotta have it all written so that everyone stays on the same page.
