Well i yanked it really hard and nothing happened. I seemed to have lost overdrive and i only have first through third gears now.
The torque converter is making noise now like an empty a/c compressor so i am taking it tomorrow to the transmission shop.
I am going to have him put in a new detent governor as well.

The tranny guy drove it today and said there is some hard part or something worn out. The tranny has trouble reversing and there is something wrong with 4th gear.
I am thinking about just buying that 4L60 and have someone putting it in for me.
Tranny guy said $175 for an install of the transmission but its going to be 3-4 days before he can do it.

We might be able to go to the hobby shop on base to do this, they have a lift.
If we can contact Anthony we can get him to come along with us, and we can work on his car too.
I dont think i can get saturday off but i definitely have sunday off.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! Brian, the 4l60 is computer controlled, so if you install it you will only get first gear and thats it. I took one apart and the internals are exactly the same but all the plug ins in the valve body and the side of the case are different, the 700r4 has only the reverse and park light switch on it, thats the only wiring. I can do the swap for you at the shop, for free so to speak, but my boss said the cores is what he will take as payment, i already have a 700r4 for that can be installed. But yea, as far as that goes it's better to keep the 700r4 unless you have the money for a new harness

I bought a 4L60 not a 4L60E.
What i have gathered from my reading is that the 4L60 is an upgraded TH-700R4 with a hydraulic valve body. The 4L60E is basically the same thing, BUT the valve body is totally computer controlled and electrical. That one little E makes a big difference, and i think they were only electrical after 93 or 94.
The car the tranny is from is a 90 Caprice, so it should be totally mechanical and hydraulic. There should be no electrical stuff except for the torque converter lockup.
I can get your shop owner a core, but not the tranny thats in there right now. I want my tranny guy to open it up and find out what failed. I think its still under his warranty, maybe. I can get him a 700R4 and i have no problem with doing that.
My tranny has a shift kit and a corvette governor now, and i think it also has a corvette servo. There are parts in there i might want later on.
Tell your shop owner i appreciate the offer and let me see if i can get a core for him, i think i know where i can get one that just wont go into overdrive. I will let you know soon...

thats cool, let me know, he said thats all he wants wther they work or not, he'll take em cuz we sell out the parts to dealers. So yea, as far as it costing you anything, ti's you basically paying me for my time in the shop. But let me know, i didn't know if it was and E or not, jsut checkin to be safe lol

Ok buddy, i have tomorrow off from work and sunday as well.
I can buy tools tomorrow like extensions and maybe a tranny jack.
We have the driveway available at my dads house and we have power tools there.
I have to load the tranny in the truck but thats about it, its ready for transport.
Hit me up and let me know if we can do this.

i'm at ozzfest today, but tomorrow i should be good, i wanna fix that TPS stuff, but yea my buddy will be with me so he can help and we can do this swap, but you are sure that it fits because the 700 has four tailshaft bolts and the 4l60's i've seen have six, so i don't want it leakin on you

Looks like the stock torque converter is shot and i need to get a new one. I probably am going to stick with the 305 TPI in this car.
Anyone know who has a good price and what kind of converter to get?
