Which cable you talking about? The shift cable or the detent cable?
The detent cable goes from the transmission to the bracket on the throttle body and is linked directly to the throttle action.
The shifter cable goes from the shifter through the center of the car directly to the transmission and controls the actual shift lever.
You can look under the car on the left (Drivers) side, look underneath at the transmission. There is a plastic bulb on the end that attaches to the shift lever.
We need more details about the problem you are having

You will have to get a new cable. What has happened is that the cable is starting to break. Auto zone should have them in stock at least they did here in SA. and also check your engine ground(s) you may have a loose ground causing it to burn(weld) the cable.

Buy a new one dude, if it snaps off you wont be able to shift gears manually, it will only be where ever the lever is at on the transmission., and its a pain to reach underneath to suicide shift lol
