So i know i dont talk on here much but i thought id ask your opinions (if you have any) on my cam choice.... www.cranecams.com/?show=browseParts&lvl=2&prt=5&Vehicle_Type=Auto&Cylinders=8&Engine_Make=CHEVROLET&Year=1990&Engine_Size=305-350%20C.I.&partNumber=109841&partType=camshafti currently am running AFR 195cc eliminators ....zz409 from tpis and a tpis mini ram...6 speed ...410s in my 9 bolt...yada yada...blew the clutch on a gt500 the other day...time for a new 800 dollar mcleod... The compression is lower than stock because of the huge heads for the non built STOCK shortblock aside from cam....i think its 8.8 to 1...something like that...it put 353hp to the wheels at hendersonperformance in New braunfuls... how do you think my cam will help me out....of course im putting some pistons and having the block freshened up to 10.5 to 1.... what do you think?

also i run 1.6 rollers so the lift on that cam is going to go up to somewhere in the .560 / .590 lift

The jump in compression from 8.8:1 to 10.5:1 will definetly help a lot, especially if you do go with that cam. I don't even know what kind of numbers you'll be putting down but that's a nice size cam.

Are you building a race motor? With 10.5 to 1 compression you are going to be running on premium only I hope.
I guess with aluminum heads the heat loss through the heads will help you from detonating.
You might want to double check the operating range of the Mini Ram to see if that RPM range falls within the specs of the camshaft you are selecting.
If this thing is going to be a racer, all bets are off. Make sure that the lobe separation angle (LSA) is going to be something you can tune with the mini ram. That engine is going to scream...
What kind of engine are you using? Most blocks (depending on the heads) are going to be running 9.5 to 1 on the compression with stock heads.
Are these the 65cc or 75cc heads? Running aluminum heads also affects compression.

65cc yes ther alum. airflowresearch makes a iron eliminator head??? afr part #1040 i think...
just a 4 bolt...block i think its outa an old truck...all cleaned an checked.
Both afr and crane cams techs liked the cam and head choice...
I have A/C in my car....i dunno if its a race car. But i like it fast... The 125 is hiding somewhere in the good ole spare tire area...

The heads choice is definitely a good one, the camshaft is definitely going to give you some power.
Did you already upgrade your valve springs when you put the new heads on?
You should be fine running on premium with a good tune.
Everyone has different tastes on how their daily driver should run, Thomas is running a pretty big cam on his TPI and it runs pretty good.

yea the cam should be tunable easlily....right now the car doesnt have much of a tune, only like 4 pulls on the dyno...
The springs that come with the heads fully assembled are good to .620 lift as i bought them...
I rev my little stock small block to 6700...ive got a 7,000 rpm pill in my 6AL box....i hit it everyonce in a while on accident....the cars lasted like this for almost a year now...i think the zz409 with 1.6 rockers puts my lift now at .558 / .558 on both sides...
The cars been converted to map...i ripped out the harness 6 months ago an ripped all the MAF BS out...much easier to tune now
I drive her like a sl^t too....
So you likem?

It sounds good, I would like to hear it run.
If you want to, you can add a rev limiter into the actual tune to prevent it from going over, say 6500 rpm.
I prefer MAF over speed density, I just think its easier to tune. What did you end up doing with the MAF goodies?
I have a buddy converting to tuned port and if you have any working items he might be interested in them.
