A little background, my A/C fuse kept popping as soon as I turned the switch from off to High Normal Vent ... whatever.
I replaced that little orange electric slider switch that switches the compessor on and off, no change.
The HVAC vacuum control lines seem to be all there, and the system used to work as designed. Sometimes it would stay on defrost only.
I decided then to do a little troubleshooting and to disconnect all the a/c components to isolate a possible blower motor problem. I stuck a fuse in the panel and hot wired the connector and the blower motor came on fine without blowing the fuse.
Then I noticed on the A/C clutch coil connector the little diode was all twisted up and the two leads were touching each other. I straighted it out and plugged everything back in.
Viola, the heater controls now work and I have cold a/c air, vent air and whatever air all blowing into the defrost vent only.
I am thinking this is a vacuum issue, anyone have a thought on this thing.

prolly a broken vacuum line, or in the case of my dads car the vacuum switch and the control head might have broks the pin that holds it together.

I worked it through the cycles to see if I could find a leak or something.
The control head is the cylindrical thing that goes around in a circle to the various colored vacuum lines?
Funniest thing today, I was driving it with the air blowing through the defrost and all of a sudden I smell this weird smell and the air starts blowing out of the front vents again.
I am going to check it out again later, I just realized why my car has been getting hot. The secondary fan wiring is corroded and the green control wire popped off so its not getting the relay energized.
I think the overheating caused it to create a leak at the intake gasket at the cylinder head just around the thermostat housing. It bubbles up around there when I shut off the car.

These HVAC controls are seriously pissing me off. I replaced the head unit with a set I picked up from a guy parting out his camaro. It still is stuck on defrost. I suspect it has something to do with #3 in the image or maybe theres a vacuum leak somewhere in the engine compartment.

I went to the pick n pull today and got a couple extra HVAC control valves. They actually have a few 3rd gens out there with good parts. They had just laid out a camaro and I found a near mint cluster in it, but forgot to bring my sockets.
