I use the bump and set method. Bump it over till the intake is fully open and spin the push rod with my finger tips then turn the nut till I can't spin it and then use a wrench to turn it 1/4 to 1/2 more.

You know what.. At some point in my life i knew that.... lol I hope this tardness goes away.. Hey z28camaroracer, we can roast marshmellows later lol
I got a good feeling about this 350. even with the motor no where near tuned it still felt like it had some potential.. I still need to get a whole new exaust setup, but hey, rome wasnt built in a day right

Thanks for that bit of knowledge... I still managed to bend a pushrod but for a under a buck a pop I went ahead and got a new set. Spent a solid 1 1/2 hours doing the bump method. I still feel there too loose but after bending that one Im a little timid.. Took it up the block for a test spin.. I am very pleased with the result.. Still need to work in the fan relay and temp gauge, speedometer, and some other mechanical issues but the engine is running good.. ha im stoked She aint race ready yet, but id feel comfortable driving her to work.. thanks everybody

im suprised that the valves didnt hit piston and crack piston but lucid is right but usually u need to cold set them before u even try to start or u can have a valve hit piston and bend valve or crack piston scar silender wall and u will be rebuilding the engine again im glad its running but if theres alot of white smoke u my have cracked a piston if u hold a dollor bill up to tail pipe and its not a constant blow and it trys to suck the dollar back in u may have bent a vavle hope it all works out for u

Yea i got pretty lucky in that respect.. The engine has dished pistons so im sure that saved my ars in that respect.. No white smoke.. the engine purrsss great.. I get a hint a valve noise every now and then but i just had surgery yesterday so thats gonna have to wait a couple weeks before i go back in and try to re adjust.. Ive heard of the dollar bill trick and think i'll try it just to make sure.. be a couple of weeks like i said though.. peace
