The truck was fine while it was parked on the curb, as soon as I parked it in the driveway it started leaking tranny fluid. I looked underneath and the driveshaft yoke was dripping fluid, didnt see any fluid before the tailshaft. I called the tranny shop and he didnt want me to drive it because of the fluid loss. Today I pulled the driveshaft and sure enough the fluid came gushing out in between the output shaft of the transmission and the rear tailshaft housing seal. It is weird, its leaking BETWEEN the shaft and seal. I found a website here: www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/yokeleak.htmIt has to be that o-ring doesnt it? Anything else I should replace when I pull the tailshaft housing off? Truck has a 700R4.

Anyhow, I pulled the tail housing off the tranny and find that the sleeve in the picture with the oring seal is not there. This is what the output shaft looks like: There is no sleeve there. There doesnt seem to be much play in the case bushing so I am thinking this might be where the leak is.

I pulled the tail housing off the tranny thats in the truck bed, and lo and behold there is a sleeve and an oring on that output shaft. I think the dude before me swapped out the tranny with a later model unit and forgot to swap the tailshaft over.
Transmission shop down the street wanted $87 to figure out why the thing was leaking. Glad I learned from Corey how to remove the driveshaft and tail housing on my Camaro.
