I wish that was my problem. I think at least one of my lifters has kicked the bucket. Trying to re adjust the lash today I noticed that the intake pushrod on cylinder number 8 kept getting loose after I had tightened it down. That seems like it would be a problem lol. Think thats it?

Ok so it seems new lifters are in order. After re doing the valve lash I took it around the block-not even a 2 minute drive-and they are back to knocking. So any guesses as to what happened to my lifters? I don't really know how they work so I'm not sure what would fail in them. Also I would like advice on new ones. I need something that can handle high rpm's, because apparently that set couldn't. Thanks again for all your help guys.

Lifters can collapse when rev'd excessively, lack of lubrication or defective.
Any 817 lifter won't handle high rpms. You need to get the 817R, that can handle 6-7k rpm. Just an fyi, they make a ticking sound from the beginning and is noticeable.

I don't really care if they tick. I just knew that it probably wasn't normal for mine to be doing that. Ok I'll look into those. Gonna head to Alamo Performance tomorrow and figure some stuff out. Hopefully I'll have it going again soon. Know anything about those other "high rev" lifters? Are they pretty much all the same or what?

Do you work close to Alamo Performance? I'm miles closer to La Vernia than them. High rev lifters have an stronger spring and clip. They can vary by brand.

Nope but my mom does, so she runs by there for me sometimes, but I gotta pick up lifters and plug wires tomorrow. But I can stop by and see you too cus today was the last day of school! Where are you located? So those lifters are fine for low rpm use too? I wonder why they don't make all lifters like that, if the only side effect is slight noise. Just less expense maybe?

They work well at low and high rpms. They don't make all lifters like that due to costs. a stock lifter will run you 2.50-3$ each, where the high rev run 4.5-5 ea. Not everyone makes power past 5500 rpm. I know I don't and I'm not willing to pay the price for high rev hydraulic roller lifters. Even when I get a discount on them.

Thats a good point. I forgot about that power thing lol. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have the car done in time to take it to the strip. You work at Extreme Performance? I think I may have heard of them before...not sure though.

That makes more sense. Roller rockers vary from 160 to 300$. The guy didn't pick up the tpi setup, so I'm not going out there.
