The other day I was at the gas station and the gear shifter felt loose and wouldnt click into the various gears.
I bought an ATP part# 4260 from advance auto parts and it seems like its the same size. When I took the nut off and pulled on the cable, the end fell off.
I installed it and put the gear shifter in Neutral and then underneath, put the manual shift on neutral. Then I tightened it down and checked for shifting through the gear ranges.
The gears are way off though. I couldnt shift all the way down to 1st gear and park seemed to be way outside the shift bezel. I loosened the nut on the cable again and tried to adjust it.
When the shifter is in park inside the car, the manual lever on the transmission is in neutral. After depressing the shift button, I only hear two clicks and then it gets really loose and wont click anymore.
Is the shifter broken as well?

After trying to adjust it today again, the cable was about 2 inches too short. It seemed impossible to me, so I pulled the clip and removed the cable. It busted at the seam where the cable is supposed to mount inside the car and hold it in place. Poor materials.

I went to the pick n pull today and grabbed a couple of these shifter cables. The first one I installed fit perfectly and adjusted in a matter of seconds.
I also pulled some black seat belts and a couple more black interior pieces.

This is the Dorman/ATP part that most places are carrying now: I might head back out there. I always forget to get some inner fender liners and I need to grab a drivers side door handle.

The Pick N Pull is on the deep south side of San Antonio a little bit past 410. You would probably head down I-35 S and get off on 410 E and come all the way down to where Palo Alto College is. Then head South down Poteet Highway towards Poteet. Its hidden behind all the Flea Market stuff. The address is: 11795 Applewhite Road, San Antonio Website: www.picknpullsa.com/If you want to head out there and need a companion, let me know, I could use an extra set of mule shoulders to carry tools LOL
