Anyone have any tips on tuning a Rochester 4 barrel Quadrajet?
I have been having this huge bog in 3rd and 4th gear at WOT where the engine feels like it has run out of gas and backfires and pops and refuses to rev. 1st and 2nd will rev as high as you want to.
I checked the vacuum break and its keeping the secondary air doors closed properly under vacuum while the engine is running. I rev the engine in neutral manually at the carb and its responsive as hell.
I remembered that Corey gave me an L69 carb from his 84 high output and I removed the secondary hangar and pulled out the secondary metering rods. They are DR rods.
I pulled the rods from the carb on the car and its got CH rods.
I swapped the CH rods for the DR rods and drove the car and its pretty damn responsive in 3rd and 4th now. It feels like a different car. I am going to have to drive it some more to make sure that the bog is gone for good.
I have been watching some videos on youtube about these carbs and they dont seem to be that as complicated as I first thought.
I would really like to get some L69 exhaust manifolds and a Y-pipe and really make it an L69 clone. The engine has an L69 camshaft and an ECM and chip out of an 88 L69 Monte Carlo SS with a 3" exhaust.

Nope, once it gets over 220 in this car, it starts to bog out bad in 3rd and 4th gear.
I am going to swap out the fuel filter and see if the old one is dirty.

I noticed that the oil pressure has been really low since I replaced the oil pressure sending unit for the gauge. After it warms up, its been at about 15 PSI at idle.
I just drained the oil and pulled out the dinky Mobil 1 M1-1111 oil filter (AC Delco PF454 stock size) and it seemed to be really heavy. I replaced it with a Purolator Classic L34631 (AC Delco PF1218) which is a 4.24" long filter from an 86 350 Pickup. I filled it with mostly synthetic blend Valvoline that he gave me and started it up.
The PSI shot waaay up to where I am used to seeing these engines run at. Even warmed up, at idle it still was at a rock solid 30 PSI.
