Anyone know where i can go to get my ignition switch done?
The dude in front of pick n pull gave me something like $125 and Sparks always wants to rewire the whole car when i take it there. There used to be this guy on bandera in this small shop, he was awesome but i went by there and the shop is gone.

Let me know when you have time and what you want to do it, i know its not easy ripping that stupid steering wheel off. The car is old so i might as well replace the switch and im probably going to have the alarm replaced as well.

Are you talking about the lock cylinder or the switch, the switch you just have to drop the column down, the lock cylinder yea you would have to pull the wheel off, if your going to do that you could also pick up an after market wheel

To be honest im not really sure, i am thinking both.... I am having trouble with the lock cylinder, the key isnt smooth and i can pull they key out in any position.
Sometimes i turn the key and nothing happens, thats why i wanted to do the ignition switch.

Ok I am bringing this one back from the dead.
How the hell do you replace the ignition switch?
I dropped the column with the two bolts that secure it up and I am looking at all the wires and connectors and things going everywhere.
On top of the steering column there is a white bodied switch with a blue connector with a bunch of wires, I am assuming that is the ignition switch itself.
Then, on the left side of the column there is another white bodied gizmo with a metal rod going through it.
I dont want to rip it all apart and not know how to put everything back together, anyone know how to do this?

The rod is the control for the high beams. The other is the ignition switch. tip take pictures as you take it apart. If you need help I may be able to swing by sunday.

Well, I removed the panels down there and dropped the steering column and looked at all the wires and switches down there.
I dont know what I am doing so I decided it was best not to take everything apart and not know how to put it back together.

I have a puller and have changed the ignition lock cylinder before (key), the switch I am talking about is the ignition switch under the dash on top of the steering column.
It dont look like fun!

I looked under my dash while taking the clutch stuff out and on the left of the colum is ur dimmer switch and on top in the ignition switch it should unplug and lift off the rod it should be easy but i will take mine off to double check

Well, I have an update:
One of Keith's buddy replaced the ignition switch for me, I gave him a couple twenties for his trouble and we decided its not the ignition switch.
The alarms installers (yes plural) butchered the wiring down underneath the dash. I took it to Spitfire and the guy just cut off a socket and relay, which may have been the starter relay?
Do our cars even have a starter relay?
Anyhow, it seems the problem is electrical related due to the wiring. The kill switch(?) thats left down there does not seem to be getting the proper juice to turn it over.
It looks like I am going to have to get a wiring diagram and try to figure out what wires they butchered and what harnesses they messed with.
What I did notice is that there is a YELLOW wire down there that is spliced into the kill switch harness which I think is the starter cutout. I am going to start there.

Well car started everytime today, then all of a sudden the alarm started going off while i was driving. Ever since, it wont start up. I pulled the alarm brain out and found this on power terminals: The upper most corrosion is on the starter interrupt. I touched the wiring harness on the alarm and the thing started to make the siren whine faintly. I disarmed the system and it beeped and still whined. The car starts with the relay connected and the alarm brain disconnected. So it must be heat soak or a sticking open relay.
